Paradisa Pink

by Joan
The story of the Paradisa Pink or the two pinks. I started collecting Paradisa sets when they were first introducted. TRU ran a newspaper add introducing them as an exclusive to TRU. One set and I wanted them all, I loved the pink. TRS sold #6416 Poolside Paradise - 1992; #6411 Sand Dollar Cafe - 1992; #6419 Rolling Acres Ranch - 1992; #6401 Seaside Cabana - 1992; #6405 Sunset Stables - 1992. #6403 Paradisa Playground and Island Arcade #6409 were introducted in 1993, but I think I was only able to get this one after I found Shop@Home. #6402 Sidewalk Cafe - 1994; #6410 Cabana Beach - 1994 were sold in TRU. I bought more than one of each set, at different times, the pink color was always the same.

Then the color change. In 1995 Lego introducted Dolphin Point - #6414 and I was totally unhappy when I opened the package, the pink color had been changed. Instead of the pink with no trace of purple, this was, the only way I can think of explaining it, a more purple pink. Well, as I always picked up Paradisa sets, and didn't want any more Dolphin Points with the new pink, I picked up a #6410 Cabana Beach, to my surprise, the pink had also been changed in this set. I checked the box. The box said 1995, my other sets with the first pink said 1994. So, in the year 1995, Lego made the change to the pink color used for Paradisa and after that all Paradisa sets contained the new pink. Funfair - #6547 Funfair - 1997 is a good example of the new pink because there are some larger pink pieces.

The good thing about the color change was, with the change was the introduction of most of the nice pink pieces, the first pink was mostly plates.

The first pink was also used in some early Duplo and Freestyle sets. No pink was ever used in Scala, Scala used light salmon or salmon.

I hope this helps,
Joan
